Phantom of the Pop Era (4 Saturdays left)
If your children are aged 6 ā 10 and they love music, fun and laughter, Kids in Madrid recommend a show just for them. From now until the 8th of April at Teatro Figaro, a small theatre opposite Cine Ideal in Madridās city centre, the much-loved English-language theatre company Face2Face are performing a 60 minute long musical called Phantom of the Pop Era, based loosely on the classic Phantom of the Opera.
Storyline: In a gripping show full of laughs and song, we meet the cast of an interactive talent show which is suffering from technical hitches that seem to be being caused by a phantom. We root for the budding love affair between two members of the cast whilst also feeling sympathy for the phantomās declared but unrequited love. We tell Carlota the diva that she is beautiful every time she asks the rhetorical question and we even see a resurrected Elvis Presley.
What children like most about this show: how interactive it is – the youngsters in the audience are asked to participate all the way through, making it a rather loud experience at moments!
What adults like most about this show: how many jokes, gestures and nuances could be read at multiple levels making it doubly entertaining.
Most memorable moment: the peals of laughter from all the youngsters in the audience when the host lost his hair!
Special mention: praise is due to Face2Face for the original score. It was the first time we had heard any of the troupe sing. They have excellent voices and the songs were incredibly well written and performed.
Kids in Madrid visited Teatro Figaro on Saturday 18th of March to watch Phantom of the Pop Era.Ā The show is 100% in English and suitable for children aged 6 ā 10.
